CHANGE IN VISA PROCEDURE FROM 1ST JULY 2008

 

As a major step towards upgrading Visa services, Consulate General of India in Edinburgh would be outsourcing the collection of visa applications and their delivery from 1st July 2008.

 

Applications for Indian Visa, whether in person or post should only be made at the following address (From 1/07/08.)

NEW PROCEDURE TO APPLY ONLINE FOR INDIAN VISA

 

EFFECTIVE FROM 1st JULY 2008.

It’s easy, secure and fast, just follow the instructions

Step 1 – Logon to the website and read the instructions

Step 2 – Click on Apply Online link and fill the form

Step 3 – On completion, note down your web reference number, displayed by the system and take a print out of your form and sign it.

Step 4 – Take an appointment to visit the application centre and avoid queues

Step 5 – You have an option to pay online as well.

Step 6 – Visit the Application Centre to drop your application

   PROCESSING TIME

Processing time may vary from application to application at the sole discretion of Indian Consulate. Hence, confirm your travel plans only after obtaining the visa. Here are some estimates of processing time under normal circumstances:

1. Applications submitted in person in Edinburgh are processed approximately in 48 working hours.

3. Applications in the following cases will take longer (minimum one week or more) to be processed:

  • Non-UK passport holders residing in the UK for less than one year.
  • Nationals of Pakistan , Sri Lanka , China , Bangladesh , Afghanistan
  • Where clearance from India is mandatory.

4. Postal applications need approximately 15 working days to be processed. This does not include the period they are in transit to and from the Consulate General.

In addition, if the Consulate General requires an applicant to attend an interview, the India Visa Application Centre will contact the applicant and inform the date and time of the interview accordingly.


TIMINGS

1. Acceptance of Visa Application at the Visa Application Centre:

  • 08:30 Hours - 14:30 hours
  • Monday - Friday

2. Collection of Processed Applications:

  • 1300 Hours - 1630 hours at the Visa Application Centre
  • Monday - Friday

India Visa Application Centre will remain open from Monday to Friday except on designated holidays.
